Curate's House, Church Hill
Curate's House - a Victorian house, once occupied by the Revd Henry Clarke who served as curate and rector of Northfield for fifty-one years until his death in 1880. A memorial cross to him was erected in the churchyard in 1884. The house was described in the 1881 Census as Church Cottage. At that period it was occupied by Evan Williams, Curate in Charge of Cofton Hackett, his wife and four children, a cook and a nurse - a somewhat sizeable cottage! We believe the last occupants were Stefan and Amy Hernicks, two Ukrainian Refugees, but the house was empty for some while prior to demolition. The house was demolished in 1973. Trident housing built warden controlled flats on the site, next to the church, now called Bishops Court. In return for the land Trident built the new Pastoral centre as well for the church.
