Hollymoor Hospital

1950 Holymoor Hospital's gardeners looking after the large grounds that surrounded the site at that time. Many of the trees & shrubs still survive today on the new housing estate. In the late 1990's about 90% of the estate was demolished, with the remaining refurbished buildings used as a local surgery, dentist, chemist, children's nursery & church.

Twenty-five nurses of the East Birmingham School Of Nursing pass exams and win awards/medals at Northfield's Hollymoor Hospital in 1979. Left to right 23-year old Deborah Poulton, Sylvia Morgan, Elizabeth Felton & Valerie Essex. (Evening Mail) Also in the photograph is Guy Page, Mr. North, Trudy Fong & Caroline Skerret.

Hollymoor Hospital (WWI)

Hollymoor Hospital circa. 1915. Used during WWI for recovering soldiers and later resumed as a lunatic asylum, now my doctors surgery, explains much, lol In 1935 it had 666 patients and Rubery buildings had over 800.

The Gate House at Hollymoor (still there today) Chapel in background. Now the entrance to a Dentist & Doctor's surgery on Frankly Beeches Road.

1910 map shows the size of the hospital and it had it's own railway that connected to Rubery Station.
