Northfield fire crew around the turn of the nineteenth century, among the crew members were Charlie Hodgetts. Harry Taylor, Sammy Stokes (the driver) and Jack Hunt (captain), who married Minnie Morris. Until the building of the fire station in Maas Road, when not in use, the engine was kept in the garden of Jack and Minnie's house in Cock Lane. Until 1911, when Norfhfield became part of Birmingham, the fire brigade was a volunteer force. The original station was at 146, Maas Road, with the present one at the corner of South Road being built in 1959. (C. Read)
