The corner shop by the rail bridge was Middlemore Rd Post office, run by my Dad, Harry Colville.He is shown here with Joan Jenks (centre) who lived in Station Rd near Turner's and emigrated to Australia. On the left is Lucy Woodward. Tree views of the shop, post office and display window with Sputnik! Finally, the last few days of Middlemore Rd Post Office (originally sited at the foot of Church Hill on the corner of Middlemore road. That site became the Co-Op and they were not granted the Post Office franchise. My grandfather won that in the early 50's and had my parents managed it on the new site.
When Mrs Coleville retired in 1982, the P.O. returned to Middlemore Rd. She is shown behind the counter with her retirement cards.
On the shop side of the Post Office Marje Mallett is serving Molly Turner, who lived in Station Rd.
