Danilo/Essoldo cinema

Opened as the Danilo Cinema on 26th January 1938. It was designed by Ernest S. Roberts who was working with architect W.A. Wilson. Taken over by Essoldo in August 1954 it closed as a cinema on 23rd November 1968.
Later a Bingo hall, then a fitness center. In 1946 the Danilo Cinema Circuit was sold to the Southan Morris operated S.M. Super Cinemas Ltd, but they retained the Danilo name. In 1954 S.M. Super Cinemas were sold to the Essoldo Circuit and the Danilo Longbridge was re-named Essoldo Cinema. It showed its last film “Barbarella” on 23rd November 1968 and was converted into a bingo club. By September 2025 it was still for sale and covered in graffiti, here a fresh coat of paint cover ground level front entrance. But while scaffolding had bee erected the previous year vandals covered the walls with paint over 30 foot above ground.

By October 2025 the whole frontage had been spay painted using a cherry picker I was told.
