A.E. Brookes & Smoky Joe's Cafe (popular with 50's bikers), c.1960. Bristol Road South opposite the Travellers Rest Pub (Now gone as well!). (Now Northfield Shopping Center)

  1. Smoky Joe's was owned by a Les Jewey in the late fifties early sixties, it was mainly frequented by Teddy Boys and transport drivers as it was open 24/7

    2. My Dad John Price (the ice-cream man) Co-Owned Smoky Joes with Les - He later owned Prices Square Kiosk outside of the old M.E.B (now Gone) however the square is now named after him.

    3. Does anyone have a good clear photo that they can email and share with me so I can get it on canvas for my Dad - I am hoping to do a 85th Birthday for him this year and this would be awesome? Many a "seasoned" lady comes to him whenever we are out at his "clubs" and reminisces about their days at his Smoky Joe place......... Thanks as I always wondered what it looked like Caroline

    4. There was a guy who worked for the local council (Geoff Thompson)who took many pictures of Northield around then. You may be able to find him via DJ Norton web site.

  2. Yes,great cafe ,I worked on the initial laundry as a vanguard ,I had a coffee and put Friday on my mind on the juke box .anyone remember the record shop further up town,I used to deliver there as well.

  4. How is john Price last time i saw him was at my cousin Christine birthday party (Tom Allen and Jean Allen) your dad and my dad was friends back in the day my dad billy farmer he knew my mom also irene who sadly passed away in may last year i did try and get a message to him about my mom
