Bell Hotel 1974, it was demolished in c.1984. "Beer At Home Means Davenports!" was the old television jingle used in the 1960's to promote the brewery's home tinned beers. The Black Horse Pub, just 400 yards up the high Street was also Davenports beer at this time.
The same view 41 years later in 2015. The furniture store was the new Bell pub for a while, but later lost it's drinks licence after drug raids.
My dad worked in The Bell in the early 70’s. Sometimes I’d go with him, aged 4ish, and being in the lounge felt like having 20 granddads 😁
