St. Bartholomew's Church

Councillor E.R. Canning JP laid the foundation stone of St Bartholomew's Church on 21 April 1937, and the opening and consecration of the new church took place on 7 May 1938. The church was on the Allen's Cross estate on the corner of Hoggs Lane and Aliens Farm Road, but was pulled down after it suffered a serious fire in 1998.  The Allen's Cross estate was butlt in 1927-8 in order to help absorb some of the excess population moving out of the city centre. The estate is named after the farm, that was on the site occupied by St Bartholomew's Church, now just the scouts hut. (J. Baker)

St. Bartholomew's Church Northfield (1938.) It was a Romanesque style building built b/w 1936-38.  (a short video below shows the laying of the foundation stone, and includes all the dignitary's of the day including Dame Elizabeth Cadbury, party in colour from 1937-38) Word has it that a new church may be build when the North Worcestershire Golf Club is redeveloped.
