Hollymoor Hospital (WWI)

Hollymoor Hospital circa. 1915. Used during WWI for recovering soldiers and later resumed as a lunatic asylum, now my doctors surgery, explains much, lol In 1935 it had 666 patients and Rubery buildings had over 800.

The Gate House at Hollymoor (still there today) Chapel in background. Now the entrance to a Dentist & Doctor's surgery on Frankly Beeches Road.

1910 map shows the size of the hospital and it had it's own railway that connected to Rubery Station.

  1. My Grandfather Ernest John Smith of 19 Bridge Street, Chilvers Coton, Nuneaton Warwickshire, served here in the Royal Army Medical Corp as an orderly, between March 1915 and January 1917. Before being transferred to RAMC Training Centre, Blackpool and then on to France.
